The Basic EFT Recipe

Now that you've read about it, here's how to do it :

Here is the basic procedure, something the founder, Gary Craig, calls 'The Basic Recipe':

  1. Give yourself a rating on your issue, either on a scale from 0-10, with 10 being very upset or in pain, or hold your hands out far for being really upset and close for not being upset, or, think in traffic light colours - red for absolutley awful, amber (yellow) for sort of upset, and green for really fine and safe (zero equivalent).
  2. Tap (about 4-7 times per second, firm enough to feel but not so hard you hurt yourself! Use a similar pressure and frequency through all of your points) on the Karate Chop point.  Repeat 3 times: Even though I have (this problem;for instance, a headache, or this memory), I accept myself (or, 'I deeply accept myself', or, 'I deeply and totally love and accept myself', or, if you prefer, 'I'm OK!') I like to use two or more fingers to make sure I'm getting the points.
  3. Tap on the eyebrow point (to find it the first time, put your finger between your eyebrows and slide it lightly in whatever direction feels comfortable (its doesn't matter) until you just start to feel your eyebrow hairs.  and repeat (this problem, headache, memory, etc.)
  4. Tap on the side of the eye and repeat (this problem, headache, memory, etc.)  To find this point, slide your finger down your eyebrow to the ridge of bone at the side of your eye, parallel with your pupil if you were looking straight ahead.
  5. Tap underneath your eye and repeat (this problem, headache, memory, etc.)  To find this point, slide your finger around to the bottom of your eye just on the ridge of the bone, right underneath your pupil when looking ahead.  It is important not to tap low on your cheek or on the sensitive soft skin just underneath your eye.  You want to be just on the ridge of the bone underneath your eye.
  6. Tap between your nose and your upper lip and repeat (this problem, headache, memory, etc.)  (This is an easier point to find!)
  7. Tap between your chin and your lower lip, just in that groove (harder to find if you a have a beard, but I'm sure you get the idea)- and repeat, (this problem)
  8. Tap on your collar bone point and repeat, (this problem).  One way to find this point it is to find your collar bone knobbly bit (scientific term) with your index finger.  Then rest all your fingertips on your torso with your fingertips pointing down in a more or less straight line.  Bring your fingers down slightly and just use all 4 fingers to tap.  You'll cover the point.
  9. Tap on your 'under arm' point, which is NOT where you put your deodorant!  You tap on your bra strap, a few inches down from your actual underarm (or where you would have a bra strap if you were wearing one), and repeat (this problem).
  10. Tap on the top of your head and repeat (this problem).
  11. Check in with yourself and see if you still have any intensity left.  If so...
  12. Tap on the karate chop point again and say something like, 'Even though I still have some of this remaining problem, and I'm not sure why, I'm OK, and I give myself permission and safety to release the rest of this problem' - do this a total of three times.  You don't have to use the same exact phrasing each time.
  13. Tap through all the points, from your eyebrow to your underarm, then to the head, and at each point, you say (preferably out loud) 'this remaining problem - I choose to let it go'
  14. Keep repeating steps 11 to 13 until the intensity is at a zero (if that's OK with you).

Sometimes you might need up to 5 or even 20 rounds to get rid of all of your intensity.  It is very important to allow yourself to get down to zero whenever you can.  If you just want to chat about how to find the points or get a few minutes of tips on how to do this for yourself, please do contact me.
